The Magnetic Amplitude and Gradient Probe System (MAGPy) is the most advanced solution for demonstration of compliance of wireless power transfer (WPT) systems and other near-field sources operating between 3 kHz and 10 MHz. We offer a handheld and a robot-based system: the handheld MAGPy is optimized for in situ evaluations (Clauses 5.2.3 and 5.2.4 of IEC PAS 63184:2021), and the robot-based system, DASY8 Module WPT – MAGPy, enables direct comparison with the basic restrictions in the laboratory (Clause 5.2.5 of IEC PAS 63184:2021). Both systems offer significant advantages over other instruments, reducing overestimation of exposure larger than 40 dB.

MAGPy V1.0 is a stand-alone system that is easy-to-use for in situ exposure assessment and compliance testing of WPT systems and any other strong magnetic near-field sources.

The probe is constructed of 24 small time-domain (TD) loop sensors arranged on the corner of a cube for determining the magnetic (H/B-) field amplitude and gradient, and of two dipole sensors and a monopole sensor to measure the electric (E-) field amplitude simultaneously.

The induced fields (E-fields, current density, and specific absorption rate (SAR)) in the human body at any position are instantly determined using the novel GMMS method defined in IEC PAS 63184:2021 and compared to basic restrictions and reference levels.

The system is more accurate and results in less overestimation (up to 40 dB) than conventional devices. MAGPy V1.0 is fully compatible with IEC PAS 63184:2021.

DASY8 Module WPT is the most accurate method to assess WPT exposure. It is based on the MAGPy technology integrated in our DASY8 product line for high precision 3D robot-based scanning. It is the only system for demonstrating compliance of WPT devices according to Chapter 8 of IEC PAS 63184:2021 and enables fully automated compliance testing.

DASY8 Module WPT is composed of one isotropic magnetic sensor and a reference sensor connected to the MAGPy data acquisition system (MAGPy-DAS) and mounted to the DASY8 robot. The induced E-fields and SAR are assessed with Sim4Life’s Quasi-Static Electromagnetic Solver (P-EM-QS) using only the measured data. The dedicated graphical user interface fully automates the testing workflow.

The module determines compliance of WPT systems and magnetic field sources without overestimation. It is also more accurate than simulation-based evaluations as it is grounded on actual fields and does not require modeling of the device.

The two systems accurately measure the electromagnetic (EM) field in the time-domain at any high-field configuration and are especially suited to evaluate human exposure. Applications include:

  • Automotive/vehicular/train WPT
  • Industrial and utility (e.g., industrial welding, induction cooking, electronic article surveillance, and WPT)
  • Energy supply (e.g., installation and operators of WPT networks)
  • Ubiquitous devices equipped with WPT technologies (e.g., mobile phones, implantable medical devices, wearable devices, and Internet of Things (IoT))
  • High power electromagnetic (EM) sources

Both systems permit compliance testing of devices with current guidelines for both the general public and occupational exposures, including: FCC, ICNIRP 1998, ICNIRP 2010, IEEE C95.1 2005, EU Directive 2013, HC Code 6, BGV B11, 26.BlmSchV.
